Promoting health and wellness is part of Peoples Gas’ commitment to the community, and we’re dedicated to normalizing the importance of mental health.
Recently, Peoples Gas safety advisor and Inclusion, Equity and Diversity Council member Jammal Davenport was able to spotlight cultural sensitivity in our communities at an event presented by the Mental Health Promotion Action Team (MHPAT) of the United Way of Broward County.
During an hour-long presentation and interactive discussion with stakeholders from across the county, Jammal shared his thoughts on the challenges underserved communities face that affect mental health, such as food and housing, education, financial instability, and clinical mental issues. His background in organizational psychology and ministry work offers him a unique perspective. “This was a great opportunity to raise awareness and talk about solutions to support culturally sensitive mental health services for underserved populations,” he said.
MHPAT is one of seven action teams at United Way of Broward County’s Commission on Behavioral Health and Drug Prevention. To learn more visit www.drugfreebroward.org.
